Photoshop Gaussian Blur Border

A gradual blend border (Gaussian blur border) can make a dramatic edge to an image either for the internet, to be printed or as a larger collage art work. The method to make a gaussian blend border in Photoshop is incredibly easy once the tips and tricks have been mastered and this guide will teach you how to make a simple gradual blending border.

The finished image is on the left and gaussian blends the image into a black background, but this can be any colour desire, the starting image is on the right.

First if the image is for the internet crop the image to the desired size using the crop tool.

Check to see that the layers window is open. If not open by clicking on the windows tab and select layers or press F7.

If your image is in the back ground level (see example below) select layer from background. This generates a layer which is unlocked and can be edited.
